finally a discussion on which I may be able to add some commentary. IMHO, I don't think the Germans ever would have conquered Great Britain, British navy or not. Remember, the Battle of Britain was won primarily because of the RAF, not the navy. And Hitler really, really wanted to invade the Soviet Union, so even if the Germans had landed on Great Britain, it would have taken a tremendous amount of resources to maintain a presence there, and I can't see them doing that and still having enough to invade the USSR.
Although it's interesting in that Churchill had the same ideas about the French fleet as FDR did about the Brits. Churchill told the French to get their fleet out of the Mediterranean so as to prevent capture by the Germans. The French refused, and so the Brits did what any good ally would do to a fellow ally- they opened fire on the French ships while they were tied off in port.

Did you know that during WWII FDR actually suggested to Churchill that the Royal Navy should be sent to Canada to be taken over by the US should Britain fall so as to not fall into Nazi hands? Churchill refused naturally...I think it is safe to say without Churchill, you would be speaking German now Sean.

Hitler would have left Britain alone if Britain had looked the other way on Germany's territorial ambitions on the continent. Hitler really didn't want to destroy Britain, he just wanted their cooperation. There are a lot of parallels between British resistance to Napoleon and British resistance to Hitler (and that is the only comparison I will draw between Napoleon and that psycho). In the Napoleonic Era Britannia ruled the seas and funded continental foes of France. In WWII Britain served as the funnel for US funds and supplies until the US joined the conflict. But in both cases Britain was the only real obstacle to a complete victory by the other side.
